The Committee Against Bird Slaughter — known as CABS — announced the launch of its autumn campaign to protect migratory birds in Lebanon, in cooperation with its local partner the Middle East Center for Sustainable Hunting and Anti-Poaching — MECSHAP, with a focus on protecting migratory raptors and combating hunting with nets and birdlime (lime sticks / glue traps), according to its announcement published on 8 September 2026.
In a statement to Sayd, Adonis Al-Khatib, head of the Middle East Center for Sustainable Hunting and Anti-Poaching, said:
The Anti-Poaching Unit (APU) at MECSHAP, in cooperation with CABS, is preparing to carry out the autumn anti-poaching camp in Lebanon, as part of a field partnership ongoing since 2017, which began after CABS contacted MECSHAP through the Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon (SPNL).
He added: “CABS works against illegal bird killing in a number of European countries, while its cooperation with APU has been a unique experience, as it was CABS’s first such experience with sustainable hunters taking part directly in anti-poaching. The experience has shown that the sustainable hunter is a true partner in protecting migratory birds and confronting violations in Lebanon.”
He continued: “Work during the spring and autumn camps focuses on monitoring and documenting violations involving birdlime, nets, night hunting, and indiscriminate killing of migratory birds, in coordination with the security agencies, the Lebanese Army, and the competent judiciary. The unit is entering this autumn’s camp at a high level of readiness, supported by a wide network of hunters and citizens who supply the operations team with reports, photos, and precise locations.”
